Fantasy Analysis: New York Jets

Welcome back football fans. When I last spoke to you we finished our trek through the AFC North and now we will go through the AFC East. Today we will look at the New York Jets. Now I know what you’re thinking. “The Jets are terrible. They’re just a media circus. Surely there are no fantasy players worth my time.” Hold on for minute. I will agree to those first two statements but there are some fantasy players worth looking at. Let’s take a look.

Mark Sanchez: Please tell me there is no actually considering this. If there is, shame on you. There are few, if any QBs worse than Sanchez. He accounted for 32 turnovers by himself. That’s an average of 2 per game. He didn’t even eclipse 3000 passing yards and he only tossed 13 TDs. Don’t do it.

Geno Smith: It’s very likely that Geno will win the QB competition. How he will do after that is another issue entirely. We likely won’t know until preseason. At first glance drafting Geno doesn’t seem like a good idea, but he may be a diamond in the rough. He will be drafted very late, if at all. I’d watch him just in case. But given his supporting cast, I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Chris Ivory: I like Chris Ivory. He flashed potential down in New Orleans, but when you play for the Saints there’s not a lot running that gets done. Whether or not he’s capable of being a 1000 yard rusher is unknown. The Jets may go with a committee approach but with Mike Goodson’s legal issues, I’m not seeing it. Watch Ivory with tempered expectations, like Geno he could be worth something.

Jeremy Kerley, Santonio Holmes, and Stephen Hill: Santonio Holmes is hands down the best receiver on this roster however he was hurt last season and missed the majority of the season and even now he’s still not fully healthy. But when he is he’s the number one target. When he went down Kerley was the only receiver that actually stepped up. Kerley totaled 827 yards and 2 TDs which is impressive considering the awful play at the QB position that the Jets displayed. With Holmes returning Kerley’s value will go down. One other receiver to pay attention to is Stephen Hill, who drew comaprisons to Demaryius Thomas coming out of the draft. He could be a fantasy sleeper, whether or not he wakes up is another issue. When it comes to the receiver position for the Jets I would not recommend any of them if Sanchez is starting, but if Geno is starting then consider them as a flex option at most unless proven otherwise.

Nick Folk: Nick Folk is a solid kicker but the Jets offense is so inept that you’re better off getting a different kicker.

And that’s all for today. Let us know what you think. Until next time, best wishes.
