Fantasy Analysis: Cleveland Browns

Hello once again, football fans. Yesterday was Sunday, and here at Fantasy Sparks we take the day off on Sunday. But no worries, we have returned. On Saturday John spoke about his beloved Panthers and today I will look at the Cleveland Browns…. Insert generic Browns joke here, and lets begin.

Brandon Weeden and Jason Campbell: There’s not much to talk about here. It’s not clear who will win this competition, but it’s being said that the Browns are looking for Weeden to win the starting job. But that still doesn't say much. Jason Campbell was a backup last year, for a reason. However he has shown he can play relatively well in the past. But even if he starts, there’s no reason to start him, there are much better options. Weeden on the hand is not much better, however there is the possibility that he improves this season, but I would not hold my breath. There’s no reason to be starting a Cleveland QB unless they suddenly start tearing it up. Also worth noting is the appointing of head coach Rob Chudzinski and Norv Turner to offensive coordinator  Chudzinski was supposedly instrumental in Cam Newton’s development and Norv is known as a QB guru. You could make the case that these additions won’t make any difference, but you could also say that they will help tremendously. Personally, I’m of the belief that neither will make a difference with whoever is the starting QB.

Trent Richardson: Richardson is one of the few players on the Browns worth having. However, the one drawback is that Richardson spent most of the season playing hurt, and he missed one game as a result. Early on, he didn’t play that well, but as the season progressed there was visible improvement. I expect that trend to continue into next year.

Josh Gordon, Greg Little and Benjamin Watson: These three receivers were Brandon Weeden’s favorite targets, along with Trent Richardson. They tallied 53, 51, and 49 catches respectively. Gordon is your best fantasy option of this group, as a number 2 or a flex if you’re deep at receiver. Greg Little could be better but he has issues with drops, so his stats suffer for it; he’s a flex at best unless he fixes his drop issues. Watson isn't far behind the others stat wise but that doesn't help his case, there are simply better receivers.

Shayne Graham: If Phil Dawson was still here then I’d say put him on your team without regret. But he’s not, and now the Browns have the Texans kicker from last season. But don’t be deceived, the Texan’s offense did a good job masking Graham’s ability. He’s got a weak leg and he’s inconsistent. There are better options.

That’s all for now. Let us know your opinion in the comment section. Until next time, best wishes.
